Creating safe and secure environments for customers is paramount for ABB, who together with Bremca, New Zealand’s largest switchboard manufacturer, partnered to provide a smart building solution for the Commercial Bay Precinct, a world class commercial space, public transport hub, retail and public space and hospitality environment, that has reshaped the waterfront area within the Central Business District of Auckland, creating a working population of 10,000 plus people.
Commercial Bay is one of Auckland’s latest developments, which presents a prolific opportunity for New Zealand to provide a world-class space, attracting international tourists with leading-edge facilities and resources, all within a central point and close to Auckland’s waterfront.
ABB’s brief was to provide a solution that would improve the reliability and efficiency of Commercial Bay’s activities. This project was one of ABB’s biggest commercial projects in New Zealand.
The solution
ABB worked closely with Bremca, New Zealand’s largest switchboard manufacturer and NDY (Norman Disney & Young), who provided the designs of the electrical systems, which incorporates all the lighting and power for the building. The solution that ABB provided was;

Due to ABB’s relationship with Bremca and NDY, coupled with their innovative solutions and leading-edge customer support and service capabilities, ABB were able to provide their expertise and technology know-how to ensure the project provided Commercial Bay with protection from electrical faults, safeguarding the retail, commercial and hospitality business owners from any power outages, saving them costs in downtime, should a fault occur.
